What is GERD / Acid Reflux?
Regurgitation of the liquid in the stomach into esophagus is called reflux. The acid content in the refluxed liquid (pepsin is the other content) can cause harmful effects on (inflaming) the lining in the esophagus. This phenomenon is said to be acid reflux. Acid reflux is also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD.
Even though acid reflux is a common phenomenon, the problem occurs when the acid content start affecting the esophagus. GERD is chronic in nature and required taking medicine indefinitely.
